Home Safety on Halloween Night – How to Prepare…

So much fun this morning being on Fox News 24 and ABC 16! Promoting safety and fun for October 31st festivities.

Whether you celebrate or participate in Halloween festivities or not it is still really important to be aware of rising crime and possible hazards that could put you or your loved ones at risk this Monday.

Here are some extra ideas on how to stay safe…

Senior Halloween Safety Tips:
ü     Make sure all floors, entry ways and porches are free from decorations

ü     Remove any Halloween décor that involves flames, such as a lit pumpkin, from outside stairs and footpaths. This is a fire hazard for the dozens of kids stopping by with tails and capes.

ü    Place carved pumpkins outside to keep the smell out and bugs away.

ü     Add night lights to hallways, walkways and rooms.

ü     Avoid window decorations that block light or the view of the front entry.

ü    Don’t play music outside for Halloween guests – be aware of your surroundings.

*One of the biggest things to remember is that an elderly person who could be at risk for any crime or violation of privacy should not be left alone. It does not mean that they won’t be able to enjoy their neighbors or community, it just means they need to do it in a safe way. Visiting Angels of Central GA can help provide a certified and licensed CNA to make the night a success.

Thank you Emily Swecker for your interview and for caring about Senior Safety!
