Tomorrow as I write, my three-year-old granddaughter, who has already been the star of at least one of these columns (see Shucking Corn with Ellie) , is having some serious brain surgery to drain a “Huge” (as the MRI report describes it) cyst . As you might imagine, the months leading up to this point trying to discover why Ellie has had such a difficult time learning to walk and keep her balance, have been stressful  for  the entire family and especially for Ellie’s parents.

Ellie’s mom and dad have been models of Godly parents demonstrating steadfast resolve in the face of “The system” (Doctors, specialists, diagnostic exams, therapists, insurance companies,  etc.) to find the very best solution to Ellie’s situation.

In seeking the very best neurosurgeon they could possibly find to help Ellie tomorrow, David and Sandra have not lost sight of the fact that he will simply provide the skilled hands that God will use to help Ellie walk, run and even skip rope as young girls are want to do; it will actually be God, The creator and sustainer of life, who provides the healing power.

Knowing that, as the Godly woman of faith that Sandra is, she posted the following message on her Facebook account last week to ask for prayer support :

Dear family and friends, We are seriously asking for your prayers. Our Sweet Ellie (the youngest of our three daughters) will be having Brain Surgery on Tuesday August 15th in Atlanta. During a Brain and Spine MRI they found a very large Arachnoid cyst on the right ventricle in her Brain. She has been struggling with her balance and gait for over two years and we finally have a diagnosis and a way to help her. Ellie is a walking, talking miracle and no one expected to see what they saw on the MRI…..

Well, I’m not a Facebook expert by any means (in fact I recently bought a copy of “Facebook for Dummies” to help me understand it better!) but the out pouring of love and support from Christians everywhere has been nothing short of “The Church” at its best. We have received prayers of support and messages of encouragement from people of all kinds of denominations and non denominations alike.  It is truly inspiring to see God’s people come together and respond in true love and prayer support to the heart cry of a loving parent such as this.

As seniors, you may be tempted to leave this digital world of Facebook and other social media to the younger generation but I’d like to encourage you not to do that. Instead, do whatever it takes to get familiar with this communication tool that no other generation in human history has ever had. It will help you keep in touch with family and friends, even your old high school buddies,  all over the world with just a few taps on a keyboard or even your phone! Who could have ever dreamed of such a thing when we were kids?!

Thanks for reading All About Seniors…..see you next week…..and on Facebook as well? I Hope so!

Update: Ellie is in recovery and doing well – she will continue to work with Physical Therapists to gain strength, muscle tone and physical ability. Thank you all for your prayers!
